Renters’ Rights Bill - Dates for Your Diary

21/07/2025

Over the last 3 weeks, the House of Lords have deliberated over proposed amendments discussed at Committee Stage. Whether or not the peers’ recommendations will be accepted by the House of Commons only time will tell, however, the Bill is moving closer to completion and Royal Assent.

Many thought that Royal Assent would have been granted by now, however, in some respects it’s fortunate that if the Renters’ Rights Act is implemented in early 2026, it means that landlords, letting agents and all other stakeholders will have the opportunity to properly prepare and put in place the necessary changes.

The key dates are as follows:

3rd Reading UK House of Lords takes place today, on 21st July 25

The Bill goes back into House of Commons on Monday 8th September 2025

This means that the Bill is likely to be granted Royal Assent in the autumn, possibly before the Labour Party conference in October.
